metasoma (noun; Greek meta, after; soma, body): 1. The posterior region of many invertebrates.

2. (Acanthocephala) The posterior part of the body or trunk.

3. (Arthropoda) The abdomen or urosome.

4. (Arthropoda: Chelicerata) In Arachnida, the abdominal body segments and telson; posterior part of opisthosoma.

5. (Arthropoda: Crustacea) see metasome.

6. (Phoronida) The long gonadal region following the mesosoma, and bearing external papillae and chitinous attachment structures
