Acanthocephala also acanthocephalans (noun, plural; Greek akantha, thorn, spine; kephale, head): A phylum of parasitic pseudocoelomate, bilateral animals distinguished by a generally eversible proboscis with recurved, sclerotized, retractable hooks; commonly called spiny-headed worms.
