metapygidium (noun; Greek meta, after; pyge, rump): (Arthropoda: Insecta) 1. In Dermaptera, the posterior ventral segment of the supra-anal plate. 2. In Coleoptera, the penultimate tergite when the elytra are shorter than the abdomen.
