anchor (noun; Latin ancora, anchor): 1. (Arthropoda: Crustacea) In Copepoda, enlarged first thoracic segment of an anchor worm.

2. (Arthropoda: Insecta) In Ephemeroptera, a distal fibrous knob of the egg, terminating an elongate adhesive thread coiled around the base.

3. (Echinodermata: Holothuroidea) An anchor-shaped ossicle or spicule of sea cucumbers.

4. (Platyhelminthes: Cestoda) In Monogenea, large curved hooks on the opisthaptor; hamuli.
