Diagnosis
The subspecies is based on its COI sequence. It can be distinguished morphologically from Trichosiopsis scutellata theae and Trichosiopsis scutellata lenae by the shorter and still more compact gonostylus and by the longer antennae.
DNA Barcoding
The COI sequence is assigned to BIN BOLD:ACD1218 (average distance 0.29%, max. 2.34%, n=231, K2P: 1.79%).
Etymology
Referring to the scutellum, part of the thorax.
Discussion
The BIN BOLD:ACD1218 was chosen for the nominotypical subspecies, because it is the most widespread on BOLD and even occurs in North America. It is member of a complex of four very closely related BINs, also comprised by Trichosiopsis scutellata elegans, Trichosiopsis scutellata interrupta and a still unnamed subspecies, represented by BIN BOLD:ADI9854, which is currently only known by a single male specimen from Canada and which was not studied.
Distribution
Belarus, Canada, Germany, France.
Notes
The country records from Belarus, Canada and France are based on the distribution on BOLD.
