Diagnosis
The subspecies is solely based on its COI sequence.
DNA Barcoding
The COI sequence is assigned to BIN BOLD:ACD6061 (average distance 0.43%, max. 1.12%, n=26, K2P: 1.29%).
Etymology
lat. elegans = elegant.
Discussion
No morphological differences to the nominotypical subspecies Trichosiopsis scutellata scutellata could be detected, so the distinction is based only on the slight genetic dustance between bith BINs. However, there are differences in the distribution of both widespread taxa. Both subspecies occur sympatrically in Germany, but Tr. scutellata elegans apparently replaces Tr. scutellata scutellata in Northern Europe and is missing in North America. The available synonym species epithet elegans was chosen, because the type locality in Germany is included in the known subspecies range.
Distribution
Germany, Norway.
