stase (noun; Greek stasis, standing): (Arthropoda: Chelicerata) 1. One of the successive instars of the postembryonic development of a specific species. 2. In Acari, an instar independent of growing molts, that is distinct within a species and can be homologized with the corresponding instars of other species.
