instar (noun; Latin instar, form): 1. An insect or nematode at a particular larval period or stage between molts.

2. (Arthropoda: Insecta) Numbered to designate the various periods, i.e., first instar, second instar, etc.; can be abbreviated 1°, 2°, 3°
