pharyngeal glands: 1. (Arthropoda: Insecta) In Hymenoptera: a. Lateral: a long coiled chain of follicles in the antero-dorsal region of the head of worker Apoidea; the source of royal jelly. b. Ventral: a transverse row of cells opening into the floor of the pharynx between the ducts of the lateral pharyngeal glands.
