pharynx (noun; plural pharynges, pharynxes; Greek pharynx, gullet): 1. In insects, annelids, arachnids and platyhelminths the anterior part of the foregut, between the mouth and the esophagus.

2. (NEMATA) a. The posterior portion of the stoma (esophastome); anterior stomal region of the esophagus proper. b. Sometimes used as a synonym of esophagus.
