oblique muscles: 1. (Echiura) Innermost muscle layer of body wall; may form oblique or nearly transverse fascicles between bands of the longitudinal muscles.
2. (Sipuncula) A thin layer of diagonally placed muscle between the circular and longitudinal muscles.
