cement layer: 1. (Arthropoda: Chelicerata) In Acari, the outer layer of cerotegument.

2. (Arthropoda: Insecta) The thin layer outside the wax of certain insect bodies, that may consist of tanned protein or a shellac-like substance and may function in protecting the wax or take the form of meshwork reservoirs of lipids.
