Diagnosis and discussion

The subspecies is mainly based on its unique COI sequence and its Northern distribution. Trichosiopsis antimelanoma s. str. is at present only known by two specimen from Norway and is morphologically and genetically distinctive from other species. The nearest neighbour is recorded from the Austrian Alps and defined as the distinct subspecies Trichosiopsis antimelanoma remschakae.

DNA Barcoding

The COI sequence is assigned to BOLD:ADL1265 (n=1, K2P: 4.98%)

Etymology

The name was coined as being similar to melanoma because it is located at the opposite position in the phylogenetic clade of the melanoma complex.

Distribution

Norway.
