stemma (noun; plural stemmata, stemmatas; Greek stemma, garland): (Arthropoda: Insecta) The lateral ocelli of larval holometabolous insects that vary in number from one on each side in tenthredinid larvae to 6 on each side in lepidopterous larvae; a simple eye; an ocellus.
