parapod also parapodium (noun; plural -dia; Greek para, beside; pous, foot): 1. (Annelida: Polychaeta) Paired lateral, fleshy, paddle-like appendages that bear one or more cirri; usually consisting of two main divisions, the notopodium and the neuropodium.

2. (Mollusca: Gastropoda) a. In Opisthobranchia, lobelike extension of the creeping sole; a fin. b. In Apysiidae, arising from the middle of the body. c. In Pteropoda, located anteriorly; functioning as oars.
