sternum (noun; plural sterna; Greek sternon, chest): 1. (Arthropoda) The primary ventral portions of the somites, or the composite ventral sclerite of a segment.

2. (Arthropoda: Chelicerata) The sclerotized plate of spiders between the coxae marking the floor of the cephalothorax.
