Coelenterata also coelenterate (noun; Greek koilos, hollow; enteron, intestine): 1. A group of diploblastic, mostly marine animals with a single internal cavity with an oral opening.

2. Cnidaria (=Coelenterata).

3. A phylum containing two subphyla, Cnidaria and Ctenophora in some classifications.
