Description
Description. Size. Small to medium for genus (SBL range 1.50–1.80 mm, mean 1.65± 0.083 mm, n=20). Habitus. Body form slightly convex, ovoid, moderately elongate (WE/SBL 0.35±0.010), head of moderate width for genus compared to pronotum (WH/WPm 0.74±0.023), pronotum of moderate width in comparison to elytra (WPm/WE 0.76±0.018). Color. Body color rufotestaceous, appendages testaceous. Prothorax. Pronotum moderately long (LP/LE 0.43±0.023) and moderately elongate (WPm/LP 1.29±0.034), with lateral margins rectilinear constricted posteriorly (WPm/WPp 1.65±0.059). Width between anterior angles much greater than between posterior angles (WPa/WPp 1.28±0.053). Elytra. Slightly depressed along suture, comparatively short (LE/SBL 0.49±0.017) and moderately wide (WE/ LE 0.73±0.030). Lateral margins slightly divergent at basal third, subparallel at middle, and evenly rounded to apex in apical third. Male genitalia. Median lobe (Fig. 12 E) with straight ventral margin and short apex with tapering tip. Sclerites of internal sac united basally, long, almost equal the length between apical and basal orifices. Left paramere with apical constriction (Fig. 12 G). Ring sclerite with short and markedly transverse handle (Fig. 14 C). Female internal genitalia. Goncoxite 2 with short ensiform setae (Fig. 15 C). Spermatheca sclerotized, elongate, with four compartments (Fig. 16 C). Spermathecal duct short with few coils. Attachments of spermathecal duct and gland to spermatheca close together. Geographical distribution. This species is known from the eastern foothills of Otago within Dunedin area of Crosby et al. (1998) and the Blue Mountains of Southland (Fig. 18 A, red circles). Way of life. Specimens were collected from soil in a broad range of habitats: tussocks, Nothofagus, broadleaf and kanuka/kowhai/mahoe forests. Relationships. Based on the structure of male genitalia and spermatheca Z. nunni is postulated to be the sister taxon of Z. phyllobius + Z. punctigerus.
