  • Zeanichnus insignis Jałoszyński, Paweł, 2013, Zootaxa 3630: 61-62.

Description

Stenichnus (Austrostenichnus) insignis (Broun); Franz, 1975: 7, Fig. 1.

Materials Examined

Type material studied. Holotype: 3: six labels (Fig. 65): " New Zealand / Broun Coll. / Brit. Mus. / 1922 - 482 " [white, printed, first line underlined in red], " Scydmaenus / insignis " [white, handwritten in faded black], " 2753 " [handwritten in black], " Type " [white circle with red margin, printed], "Hunua / Drury" [white, handwritten in faded black], " Stenichnus / (Austrosten.) / insignis (Br.) / det.H.Franz" [white, printed and handwritten in blue] (NHM).

Diagnosis

Diagnosis. Antennae with indistinct 4 -segmented club (Fig. 62); aedeagus (Figs. 70–71) slender with long lateral groups of needle-like sclerites. Redescription. Body of male (Fig. 62) strongly convex, elongate and slender, with long appendages, BL 1.53 mm; glossy, uniformly reddish-brown with slightly lighter appendages; vestiture yellowish. Head (Fig. 62) approximately subtriangular, broadest at eyes, HL 0.25 mm, HW 0.28 mm; tempora much shorter than eyes; vertex distinctly transverse and weakly, evenly convex, anteriorly confluent with frons; frons convex; supraantennal tubercles barely marked; eyes large and strongly convex, slightly oval and oblique in relation to the long axis of the head. Punctures on head dorsum fine and sparse, inconspicuous; setae short, sparse, suberect. Antennae (Fig. 62) slender, with indistinct club composed of antennomeres VIII–XI, AnL 0.65 mm; antennomeres I–V elongate, VI–VIII each about as long as broad; IX slightly, X distinctly transverse, XI 1.5× as long as broad. Pronotum (Fig. 62, showed in postero-dorsal view) in dorsal view with large and subtriangular discal part broadest near anterior third of PL and short posterior collar demarcated by distinct lateral constriction, PL 0.40 mm, PW 0.33 mm; anterior and lateral margins of discal part confluent and rounded; posterior margin arcuate; hind pronotal corners indistinctly marked, blunt and obtuse; posterior collar dorsally indistinctly demarcated by shallow, narrow and arcuate transverse groove with deepened lateral parts running on pronotal sides and connecting small but distinct lateral ante-basal foveae located on sides of pronotum, groove extends at each end beyond lateral foveae nearly to adcoxal part of hypomeron. Punctures on pronotal disc very fine and inconspicuous; setae long, sparse and suberect. Elytra (Fig. 62) oval and more convex than pronotum, broadest between middle and anterior third, EL 0.88 mm, EW 0.58 mm, EI 1.52; humeral calli distinct, developed as elongate protuberances; elytral apices separately rounded. Punctures on elytral disc fine and inconspicuous; setae on holotype preserved only on small part of elytra, moderately long, presumably sparse and suberect. Hind wings well-developed, twice as long as elytra. Legs (Fig. 62) long and slender; all tibiae straight or nearly straight. Aedeagus (Figs. 70–71) elongate, moderately slender, AeL 0.25 mm, median lobe approximately oval, with abruptly narrowed apical part of dorsal wall forming long subtriangular projection; internal armature complicated, composed of sub-basally located central complex and sub-apical lateral groups of needle-like sclerites projecting distally from median lobe; parameres slender, each with two long apical setae. Female. Unknown.
