Two possible apps that could help to improve the links between Wikimedia and research

  1. An automated tool that can flag a DOI as to whether the content it points to is open access (either binary or in colour as at ROMEO), such that Template:Open access can be used to label articles as being open access, as at the bottom of the Wikimedia Research Newsletter; should have some HTTP error handling; discussion
  2. An automated tool to convert PubMed Central XML to MediaWiki XML, such that openly licensed articles from the Open Access Subset of PMC can be uploaded to Wikisource and reused in Wikimedia projects from there
