A wiki approach to Open Access
The Wikimedia and Open Access communities share a vision of free global access to knowledge, but the many interactions between the two sides have only recently begun to become more systematic in nature. We will look at several of these recent developments and highlight the challenges and benefits they provide to both communities in terms of improving the coverage of Open Access and related topics on Wikipedia, increasing the reuse of Open Access materials on Wikimedia projects, and developing an Open Access and Open Data policy for the Wikimedia Foundation. Finally, the potential that collaboratively editable platforms with public version history may have for scholarly publishing platforms will be illustrated with a few existing examples.
