Description (male)
Head. Eye bridge 5 rows of facets. Antenna unicolour. LW-index of 4th flagellomere 2.25–2.5; neck 0.25–0.35 × segment width; transition of basal part to neck pronounced. Colour of neck unicolour. Antennal setae shorter than segment width; of normal strength; salient. Palpus darkened; long; palpomeres 3. First palpomere elongate; with 3–5 setae; with only sparse sensilla. Second palpomere elongate. Third palpomere as long as first. Thorax. Colour brown. Notum unicolour. Thoracic setae long and strong; black. Posterior pronotum setose. Postpronotal setae 2–3. Mesothoracic sclerites bare. Legs. Colour yellow. Hind coxa of same colour as femora. Front tibial organ as patch of setae; front tibial organ not bordered. Tibial setae on hind legs normal, shorter than tibial width. Tibial spurs of equal length. Claws untoothed. Wing. Wing slightly darkened; of normal shape. Wing membrane without macrotrichia. Wing venation weak, with faint stM. M-fork of normal shape. R1 ending at or slightly before base of m-fork; posterior veins with macrotrichia; stM mostly with macrotrichia; CuA1 and CuA2 mostly with macrotrichia; bM bare; r-m mostly setose; bM:r-M 1.05–1.28; st-Cu:bM 0.46–0.6; R1:R 1.15–1.4; c:w 0.61–0.71. Halter darkened; of normal length. Abdomen. Abdominal setae strong; dense; on tergites black; on sternites black. Hypopygium concolour with abdomen; LW-index 0.56–0.66. Base of gonocoxites with strong setae; gonocoxites broadly separated; inner margin of gonocoxites narrowly U-shaped; inner membrane of hypopygium scarcely setose, or densely setose; ventral margin of gonocoxite with short setae. Gonostylus elongate; LW-index 2.2–2.4; Inner margin straight, or concave; apex with one obtuse angle. Apical tooth present; without internal structure; strong; LW-Index 2.3–3. Awl-like setae long, or normal; present beneath apical tooth. Megasetae absent. Whiplash-hair absent. Tegmen without special features; central process absent. Length of ejaculatory apodeme/hypopygium 20–26 %; base of ejaculatory apodeme present. Field with aedeagal teeth inconspicuous. Measurements. Body size 3–3.8 mm. Hind tibia 1.65–1.8 mm. Wing length 3–3.7 mm.
Diagnosis
Trichosiopsis natiae is placed in the Tr. rejecta group because of the elongated setae at the base of the gonocoxites and the gonostylus with an apico-dorsal angle. The gonostylus is more tapered than in most other species of the group. The legs with yellow coxae and brown tibiae are remarkable and may help to recognize this otherwise quite inconspicuous looking species.
DNA Barcoding
The COI sequence is assigned to BIN BOLD:ADA7966 (n=1, K2P: 10.27%).
Etymology
The species was named in honour of my friend Natalia “Nati” Regner.
Discussion
Tr. natiae is currently only known by the holotype and was collected in South-West Germany, where many recently described species were found. Some of these probably have a Western European distribution, indicating, that the diversity in that part of Europe is still insufficiently studied. Despite of a supposedly south-western distribution the species is genetically and morphologically most similar to the Nordic species pair Trichosiopsis norvegica and Trichosiopsis subnorvegica.
Distribution
Germany.
