Diagnosis
This subspecies is mainly based on its unique COI sequence. Tr. fuscipalpa fennica is hardly distinguishable morphologically from Trichosiopsis fuscipalpa fuscipalpa, only the legs appear to be somewhat brighter.
DNA Barcoding
The COI sequence is assigned to BIN BOLD:ACC1319 (average distance 0.13%, max. 0.31%, n=7, K2P: 3.69%).
Discussion
Trichosiopsis fuscipalpa fennica is a boreal variant of the nominotypical subspecies and was to date only found in Finnish Lapland. In the adjacent Norwegian Lapland, however, only the typical form was found. As no intermediate sequences were recorded and the barcoding gap is sufficiently large, the treatment as a distinct, but cryptic, subspecies is justified.
Distribution
Finland.
