Diagnosis

Diagnosis. Frons with a brown median stripe through an otherwise broad dark yellow area. Arista black, pubescent. Fore tarsus blackish brown. Wing with a pale brown apical spot on R2+3, and a weak brown spot on each of crossveins r-m and dm-cu. Abdomen yellow, tergites 1–5 each with a pair of black quadrate lateral spots; male tergite 6 (female 6–7) with a pair of brown spots on posterior margin.

Description

Description.MALE. Body length 4.3–4.7 mm, wing length 4.2–4.6 mm. FEMALE. Body length 4.3 mm, wing length 4.3 mm. Head (Figs. 56–57) yellow. Frons with a brown median stripe through an otherwise broad dark yellow area, extending to ocellar triangle, and black short setulae on anterior 2/3, nearly 1.8 times longer than wide and parallelsided; ocellar triangle grayish black; anterior fronto-orbital setae reclinate, shorter than the posterior. Facial keel distinct on upper part between antennal bases, a pair of indistinct brown triangular spots under the base of each antenna; gena about 1/3 height of eye, with wide brown stripe. Antenna yellowish brown, 1st flagellomere rounded apically, nearly 1.2 times longer than high; arista black, pubescent. Orbito-antennal spot distinct, present as a large pale brown triangular spot between eye and antenna. Proboscis mostly yellow except pale brown tip, with yellow and blackish setulae; palpus yellow with black setulae.

Thorax (Figs. 56–57) dark brown with sparse grayish white pruinosity. Mesonotum with narrow yellow dorsocentral vittae and narrow median vitta, all of which extend through otherwise brown scutellum, with median stripe through scutellum wider than that on mesonotum; 0+3 dorsocentral setae, acrostichal setulae in 4 rows; prescutellar acrostichal seta hair-like, shorter than 1st postsutural dorsocentral seta; anepisternum and katepisternum brown, with yellow through upper 2/3 of anepisternum and at suture between the two sclerites; 1 anepisternal seta, 1 katepisternal seta. Legs mostly yellow, except fore tarsus blackish brown. Fore femur with 4 posteroventral setae and 8 posterodorsal setae; fore tibia with 1 preapical anterodorsal seta and 1 weak apicoventral seta. Mid femur with 1 weak apicoposterior seta; mid tibia with 1 strong preapical anterodorsal seta, 1 strong apicoventral seta. Hind femur with 1 weak preapical anterodorsal seta; hind tibia with 1 preapical anterodorsal seta and 1 short apicoventral seta. Wing (Fig. 58) slightly darkened hyaline, with a pale brown apical spot on R2+3, a weak brown spot on each of crossveins r-m and dm-cu; subcostal cell hyaline; costa with 2nd (between R1 and R2+3), 3rd (between R2+3 and R4+5) and 4th (between R4+5 and M1) sections in proportion of 5.2:1.2:1; crossvein r-m beyond middle of discal cell; ultimate and penultimate sections of M 1 in proportion of 1:1.4; ultimate section of CuA1 about 1/7 of penultimate. Halter yellow except knob black. Abdomen (Figs. 56–57) yellow, tergites 1–5 each with pair of black quadrate lateral spots; male tergite 6 (female 6–7) with pair of brown spots on posterior margin; male sternite 6 membranous. Male genitalia (Figs 9– 12): epandrium triangular, with hairy dorsal area near anterior margin, and pair of black conical dorsoapical processes in lateral view, and a ventromedial incision in posterior view; surstylus with short setulae; hypandrium broad, with tiny concavity on each of two lateral processes; phallus narrow apically and with pair of ridge-like processes.

Discussion

Remarks. The new species is very similar to Tetroxyrhina peregovitsi Papp from China (Taiwan) in having a yellow palpus, a dark fore tarsus, the wing not being intensely brown along the costal margin, and having a weak brown spot on each of crossveins r-m and dm-cu, but it can be separated from the latter by the abdominal tergites 1–5 each having a pair of black quadrate lateral spots, and male tergite 6 (female 6–7) having a pair of brown spots on the posterior margin. In Tetr. peregovitsi, the abdominal tergites are dark gray dorsally and yellow laterally, and tergites 5–6 have a triangular light part (Papp, 2007).

Etymology

Etymology. The new species is named after the type locality Jinping.
