NZIB checklist [p. 407]

PSOCIDAE

  • Blaste tillyardi Smithers, 1969

Additions to NZIB

  • Blaste lignicola (Enderlein, 1906) A
  • Clematostigma maculiceps (Enderlein, 1903) A

NOTES

  • Blaste lignicola has now been validated new to New Zealand by Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (2011: 23), based on 2 specimens collected in Auckland City by me:
    • NEW ZEALAND AK, Westmere, on trunk of Eucalyptus, 12 Jan 2011, S.E. Thorpe (Latitude: -36.857892, Longitude: 174.718012)
    • NEW ZEALAND AK, Auckland Domain, on trunk of Eucalyptus, 14 Jan 2011, S.E. Thorpe (Latitude: -36.863732, Longitude: 174.775124) (AMNZ 85647) (see fig. 1)
  • additional specimens:
    • 1 specimen, NEW ZEALAND AK, Auckland City, on trunk of Eucalyptus at night, 2 Jun 2011, S.E. Thorpe (Latitude: -36.849655, Longitude: 174.769542) (AMNZ 85670)
    • 1 specimen, NEW ZEALAND AK, Tamaki Campus, on branch of Pittosporum sp., 11 May 2012, S.E. Thorpe (Latitude: -36.881211, Longitude: 174.852938) (AMNZ 86141)
  • validated new to New Zealand records, published in Biosecurity magazine, are not interceptions, and while some may prove not to be permanently established, the default assumption must be that they are so
  • Blaste lignicola is certainly established in New Zealand
  • I have recently (Oct 2011) discovered a third species, Clematostigma maculiceps (identity confirmed by Tim New, 29 Nov 2011), on the Tamaki Campus, Auckland City (see fig. 3)
  • both Blaste lignicola and Clematostigma maculiceps have now been found in the grounds of the Tamaki Campus
