Diagnosis

Diagnosis. Species recognizable by the spectral vein Cu 1 on hind wing.

Description

Description. FEMALE (11 specimens). L: 5.9, 5.9 (5.1–6.3). Head. Constricted behind eyes. Temples distinctly rounded. Vertex shagreened with shallow and sparse punctures. Face densely punctate-shagreened. Clypeus almost smooth and strongly transverse, almost as wide as face (Ci = 3.7). Mandibles very long and stout, slightly wrinkled at base, the lower tooth about 1.5 x longer than the upper. Malar space moderately long (MLMi = 0.8). Antenna with 35 flagellomeres. Mesosoma. Pronotum granulate, dorso-apically shagreened and with basal transverse wrinkles. Mesonotum and scutellum shagreened. Notaulus shallow but distinct, reaching the middle of mesoscutum. Pleurae densely punctate-shagreened. Speculum smooth. Scutellum rounded, postscutellum flat and longitudinally ribbed. Propodeum densely punctate-shagreened. Area petiolaris rugose with transverse wrinkles. Area basalis triangular, small, petiolate. Area superomedia about twice longer than wide, almost rounded anteriorly. Tarsal claws pectinate at base. Hind wing with vein Cu 1 spectral, 1 /Cu longer than cu-a. Metasoma. Postpetiole, tergite II and basal part of tergite III finely aciculate, the remaining tergites alutaceous with shallow punctures. Ovipositor long (OTi = 1.7–2.2). Color. Orange overall, face and orbits clearer. Tergites 1 and 2 fuscous, apically orange. Flagellum, hind tibia posteriorly, hind tarsus, ovipositor and ovipositor sheath dark brown. Wings hyaline, pterostigma light brown, lighter in the middle. MALE. Unknown.

Etymology

Etymology. “ Mahafaty ” means “dangerous” in Malagasy and is also a great hiking place of Reunion.
