Syntypes: in MZPW
Type locality
South America
Diagnosis
Neosciara fasciatella is the type species of Neozygoneura. The species was only imperfectly described based on specimens with two-banded wings and a bulbous m-fork, as implied by including the name Zygoneura in the new genus name. It is larger than Euricrium fasciatellum and has bare posterior wing veins.
Etymology
lat. fascia = fascia. The name makes reference to the wing pattern.
Discussion
The species was originally described as Neozygoneura fasciatellum. Lengersdorf coined the species group name in the same manner as Euricrium fasciatellum not considering, that the gender of Euricrium is neuter and Zygoneura is feminine. The name was therefore to be corrected as Neozygoneura fasciatella in order to comply with the gender agreement. The species is possibly identical with Neozygoneura virgatoalata.
