Ordo: Coleoptera
Familia: Staphylinidae
Name
Astenus Dejean, 1833 – Wikispecies link – Pensoft Profile
Note
Newton et al. (2000)[1] reported 24 species of Astenus from North America; seven species are reported from Canada and two (Astenus cinctus (Say) and Astenus discopunctatus (Say) from NB (Bousquet et al. 2013[2]). Here, we report two additional species from the province.
Downie and Arnett (1996)[3] provided a key to the species of northeastern North America which was used to identify the specimens reported below. The species occurring in New Brunswick and eastern Canada have good external and male genitalic (shape of aedeagus) characters for separating species. However, since there have been no revisions of this genus since Casey’s (1905)[4] key, the species names used below should be treated as provisional.
