Description

Description. General: (Figs 319, 320) Body length 3.1-3.3mm. Arista pubescent. M 1 + 2 ratio approximately 6.0. First flagellomere enlarged, higher than long with venter more lobate; hairs on margin of distal half longer. Chaetotaxy: Three fronto-orbital setae, decreasing in length anteriorly. Ocellar seta approximately 1.5 times length of ocellar tubercle. Postvertical seta as long as tubercle. Interfrontal seta minute. Most notal setae missing. Anterior dorsocentral half length of posterior dorsocentral, closely spaced near posterior margin of scutum. Acrostichal seta small but well-developed. One lateral scutellar seta. Colour: Setae yellow to brownish-yellow. Body yellow with orange tint. Ocellar tubercle dark brown; back of head with one pair of brown stripes broadly joined above foramen and continuing onto posterolateral corner of frons to base of inner vertical seta; parafacial, gena and anterior half of postgena silvery tomentose. Anteriomedial margin of scutum with wide spot extending onto dorsomedial postpronotum; postsutural scutum dominated by large, broad brown spot that is ill-defined and trilobed anteriorly, and reaching transverse suture in female; scutellum and metanotum dark brown. Anepisternum with large dark brown circular spot that is larger in female. Wing lightly infuscated distally, more so anteriorly. Halter white. Abdomen dark brown with tergites 1 and 2 light brown (only tergite 1 in female) and surstylus, cercus and ventral margin of epandrium yellow. Male terminalia: Not dissected—essentially as described for A. grypostylis externally (Figs 92, 93). Female terminalia: Not dissected.

Distribution

Distribution:Laos, Thailand.

Materials Examined

Holotype: LAOS. Vientian e Prov.: Ban Van Eue, 31.xii. 1965, native collector [[[Type]] No. BPBM17198] (1 ♂, BPBM).

Discussion

Comments: While males are undissected, the external genitalia of the holotype and other external features including chaetotaxy and colouration are strongly suggestive of a close relationship between this species and Allometopon grypostylis, which also occurs in Laos and Thailand.
