- Agdistis sergeii Kovtunovich, Vasily, 2015, Zootaxa 4033: 556-556.
Materials Examined
Type material: Holotype ♂, (ZISP1816) S. Africa Rep., Northern Cape, 80 km SW of Springbok, Namaqua N.P., S 2957 ′ E 1739 ′, h 632 m, 18.xi. 2010, leg. V. Kovtunovich & A. Sochivko. Paratype:1 ♂, (BMNH21977), Cape Province, Prince Albert Rd., Frbr. 1921. R.E. Turner., Brit. Mus. 1921 – 115. External characters. Wingspan 21.5– 24 mm, holotype 21.5 mm. Forewing grey with four dark spots. One of them larger, oval-shaped, located in discal cell. Distal part of forewing with black narrow streaks at costal margin. Fringe of outer margin grey with alternating darker areas. Hindwing and its fringe unicolorous grey.
Description
Male genitalia. Valvae symmetrical, narrow, knee-bent, slightly widened in distal part (the genitalia preparation on the slide, shown in Fig. 2, appears asymmetrical. This is distortion due to dissection technique). Costal processes long, slightly smaller than the length of the valva, narrow in basal part, widened in middle part and narrowed again in distal part. Uncus small, furcate. Lobes of sternum VIII rather long and thin. In middle part of sternum VIII there are wide folds on the sides. Phallus thin, long, slightly curved, equal to the length of valva. Female unknown.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis.A. sergeii is similar to A. malitiosa Meyrick, 1909, both species having similarly shaped sternumVIII, uncus and phallus. These species differ from each other by the angled valve, wider costal process of valve, as well as folds on the sides of sternum VIII in E. sergeii.
Distribution
Distribution. Rep. S. Africa (Northern Cape). Flight period. November.
Etymology
Etymology. The species is named in honour of Sergei Kovtunovich, brother of the first author of the article.
