• Wikis can be used, in principle, for any aspect of scholarly communication, as detailed in this comparison of wiki- and paper-based communication systems.
• Examples exist for all steps of the research cycle, except successful applications to major funders (see table below for some attempts)
• Can couple (post-publication) peer review with curation

A few exist, but most of them barely so. The most notable one is Scholarpedia, exclusively publishing review articles, typically by the experts in the field. An idea floating around: Wikipedia Journal	Wikipedia Citizendium Encyclopedia of Earth Similar: Encyclopedia of Life Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy Knol shares some aspects with wikis and blogs and is already in use for PLoS Currents. WiserWiki - seeded with a medical textbook, only editable by certified physicians, CC-BY-licensed; discontinued	RNA Biology Guidelines for authors (progress report) ZooKeys (journal) & Species-ID (wiki) co-publishing articles	Lab notebooks, e.g. OpenWetWare Lab reports: Lab reports Conferences: Stand-alone site, also talks like this one Research papers, apart from the RNA Biology approach: contextualized on-wiki, links to wikis amongst other sources, integrated into database; drafting on-wiki: Polymath 2nd, changes during revision Review articles: Scholarly / Outreach Wikis can act as publication filters for new research See also Can Computers Help Scientists With Their Reading?
