Description (male)
Head. Eye bridge 3 rows of facets. Antenna unicolour. LW-index of 4th flagellomere 1.9–2.35; neck 0.3–0.45 × segment width; transition of basal part to neck pronounced. Colour of neck unicolour. Antennal setae shorter than segment width, or as long as segment width; of normal strength; sparse, or dense; salient. Palpus pale, or darkened; short; palpomeres 2, or 3. First palpomere thickened; with 1–2 setae; with only sparse sensilla. Second palpomere globular. Third palpomere shorter than first, or as long as first. Thorax. Colour brown, or reddish. Notum unicolour. Thoracic setae normal; black. Posterior pronotum bare. Mesothoracic sclerites bare. Legs. Colour yellow. Hind coxa of same colour as femora. Setae on front coxa darkened, or pale. Front tibial organ as patch of setae; pale; front tibial organ not bordered. Tibial setae on hind legs weak and inconspicuous, or normal, shorter than tibial width. Tibial spurs of equal length. Claws untoothed. Wing. Wing slightly darkened; of normal shape, or with weakly developed anal lobe. Wing membrane without macrotrichia. Wing venation weak, with faint stM. M-fork of normal shape. R1 ending clearly before base of m-fork; posterior veins with macrotrichia; stM bare; CuA1 and CuA2 mostly with macrotrichia, or with a few macrotrichia; bM bare; r-m bare, or with few setae; bM:r-M 0.7–0.95; st-Cu:bM 0.15–0.35; R1:R 0.95–1.25; c:w 0.6–0.75. Halter darkened; short, or of normal length. Abdomen. Abdominal setae strong; on tergites black; on sternites black. Hypopygium concolour with abdomen; LW-index 0.67–0.85. Base of gonocoxites bare, or with weak setae; gonocoxites fused; inner margin of gonocoxites typically U-shaped; inner membrane of hypopygium scarcely setose; ventral margin of gonocoxite with elongate setae. Gonostylus elongate; LW-index 2–2.4; Inner margin concave; apex with one obtuse angle, or with two obtuse angles. Apical tooth present; without internal structure; strong; LW-Index 3–3.5. Awl-like setae long; beneath apical tooth numerous and reaching far beyond the tooth. Megasetae absent. Whiplash-hair absent, or present; whiplash-hairs 0–1; position of lowest whiplash-hair 15–20 % from top. Tegmen 0.5–0.75 × longer than broad; laterally emarginate; with dark and strengthended edges; central process absent. Length of ejaculatory apodeme/hypopygium 17–30 %; base of ejaculatory apodeme present. Field with aedeagal teeth inconspicuous. Measurements. Body size 2.2–2.7 mm. Hind tibia 1.4–1.6 mm. Wing length 2.3–2.6 mm.
Diagnosis
Trichosiopsis helvetica sami differs from the larger Trichosiopsis helvetica helvetica by a more slender gonostylus with a longer apical tooth. The dorsally positioned tooth is well visible in ventral view. The subspecies is genetically clearly separated from the nominotypical subspecies by its DNA barcode.

Etymology
The subspecific epithet refers to the Sami people, which live in the area, where the holotype was collected.

Finland.
Discussion
Trichosiopsis helvetica sami might also be considered an independent species from Tr. helvetica as the genitalic characters facilitate a clear separation. However, as long as the geographic separation of both taxa is not better proven, the treatment as subspecific classification should be maintained.
