This photograph was first published in the 1938 Modern Marvels Encyclopedia, and is currently in the public domain in both the United Kingdom and the United States due to the following conditions: The UK Copyright Act of 1988 vests authority over "published photographs and photographs taken before 1 June 1957" to the UK Copyright Act of 1956 The UK Copyright Act of 1956 states that "the copyright in a photograph shall continue to subsist until the end of the period of fifty years from the end of the calendar year in which the photograph is first published, and shall then expire". The photographs were thus Public Domain in their home country in 1988. The encyclopedia was published in 1938 Great Britain without copyright notice The photograph was first published before 1978 without complying with U.S. copyright formalities and it was in the public domain in its home country prior to the URAA date of 1996 The photographs are thus Public Domain in the United States.
