arctic (adjective; Greek arktos, bear): 1. Pertaining to the region of the North Pole within the Arctic Circle.
2. Pertaining to the high latitude regions, that may or may not be inside the geographical Arctic Circle, from which tree growth is normally absent, but with plants and animals.
