coenosteum (noun; plural coenostea; Greek koinos, common; osteon, bone): 1. (Cnidaria: Hydrozoa) The calcareous mass forming the skeleton of a compound coral.

2. (Porifera: Sclerospongiae) The basal skeleton of a stromatoporoid sponge.
