hydrotheca (noun; Greek hydor, water; theke, case): (Cnidaria: Hydrozoa) Peridermal cups into which most or all of the hydranth can retract, may be provided with an operculum; in some Thecata, the cup may be reduced to a mere platform supporting the hydranth.
