scolopidium (noun; plural -ia; Greek diminutive skolos, pointed object): A mechanoreceptor (part of a chordotonal organ) consisting essentially, of three cells: sensory neuron (scolopale), enveloping cell, and an attachment, or cap cell; scolopophore; sensillum scolopophorum
