ancestrula (noun; Latin antecedere, to go before): (Bryozoa) The first formed colony founding zooid. a. In Stenolaemata and most Gymnolaemata, the zooid formed by metamorphosis of a sexually produced larva. b. In Phylactolaemata, the zooid formed from a statoblast.
