neotenic (adjective or noun; Greek neos, new; teinein, to extend): (Arthropoda: Insecta) In Isoptera, a supplementary reproductive in a colony that may retain some juvenile characters; the word is used both as a noun and adjective (a neotenic or neotenic reproductive).
