How to generate regularly externally updated species pages

From Species-ID
Jump to: navigation, search

It is welcome to provide database-generated content on Species ID. It is also welcome to regularly update this content. Species-ID then provides only secondary publishing and integration services, not data curation.

However, for this to work, the following two rules must be followed: a) the page that is regularly updated (through xml-based wiki page import, manually or through API.php) must have a warning embedded. Some pages may use warning boxes that are visible in normal page view mode. In any case, with or without such a warning, the page should start with a text inside html-comments:

<!--COMMENT: This page is regularly UPDATED by EXTERNAL services. DO NOT EDIT!-->

b) Furthermore, the page needs a name that makes it sufficiently unique. A generated, updating page on Quercus robur should not be called "Quercus robur" but perhaps "Quercus robus (Macmillan 2011)".
