Materials Examined

Type material. Holotype: Bolivia (Cochabamba): ♂, two labels: " BOLIVIA: Cochabamba Dept. / Est. Biol. Sacta / Univ. Mayor S. Simeon, 300 m / S 17 º06.48'W 64 º 46.94 ', 16-27.xii. 2005 / rainforest FIT / leg. S. & J. Peck, 05- 47 " [white, printed]; " ALLORAPHES / peckorum m. / det. P. Diagnosis

Diagnosis. Male: frons shallowly impressed in middle but not demarcated from convex vertex; pronotum with nearly evenly arcuate ante-basal transverse groove and without median pit; elytra strongly modified, each with deep and asymmetrical sub-apical lateral impression filled with and surrounded by setae different than those on elytral disc; aedeagus in ventral view with strongly asymmetrical apex of median lobe and short apical projections; parameres with broadened and pointed apical parts, each bearing three thin and barely discernible setae. Diagnostic characters of females unknown.

Description

Description. Body of male (Figs. 9–10) moderately strongly convex, brown, covered with light brown vestiture; BL 1.08 mm. Head broadest at large, strongly convex and coarsely faceted eyes, HL 0.18 mm, HW 0.24 mm; tempora absent, eyes adjacent to occipital constriction; vertex distinctly convex and confluent with frons; frons between eyes with shallow impression with diffused margins, anterior part of frons flattened; supraantennal tubercles feebly marked. Punctures on frons and vertex inconspicuous, fine; setae short, moderately dense and mostly erect. Antennae slender, AnL 0.48 mm; antennomere I about 2.3 x as long as broad; II about twice as long as broad; III– VII each elongate; VIII about as long as broad; IX–X each slightly transverse; XI about 1.7 x as long as broad and about 1.7 x as long as X. Pronotum as long as broad, broadest in anterior third; PL 0.28 mm, PW 0.28 mm. Anterior margin and lateral margins in anterior third strongly rounded; sides distinctly narrowing caudad, pronotum distinctly constricted near posterior fourth; posterior margin slightly arcuate; ante-basal transverse groove distinct and evenly arcuate, without median pit and with moderately large and shallow lateral impressions. Punctures on pronotal disc inconspicuous, fine and sparse; setae dense, short and suberect to erect, sides of pronotum covered moderately densely with moderately long, relatively thin bristles ordered latero-caudad. Elytra more convex than pronotum, slightly rhomboidal, broadest slightly anterior to middle; EL 0.63 mm, EW 0.50 mm, EI 1.25; sub-humeral lines sharply marked and about as long as 1 / 3 EL; sub-apical lateral region of each elytron with large and deep elongate impression of irregular shape. Punctures on elytra distinct but small, shallow and with diffused margins, separated by spaces comparable to puncture diameters; setae moderately dense and variable in length, mostly moderately long and suberect to erect but some strikingly long and erect setae are distributed laterally in anterior half of each elytron and posteriorly behind impressions; additionally each impression with short and nearly recumbent setae. Hind wings well developed. Legs long and slender; all tibiae straight. Aedeagus (Figs. 40 –41, 57– 58) slender and darkly sclerotized; AeL 0.33 mm; in ventral view apical part of median lobe strongly asymmetrical and with shallow and strongly oblique apical emargination; apical projections relatively short; parameres in lateral view strongly but not abruptly expanded in subapical region and gradually narrowing toward pointed apices, each bearing three thin and short setae. Female. Unknown.

Distribution

Distribution. Central Bolivia. (Fig. 68 g).

Etymology

Etymology. This species is named in honor of the collectors, Stewart B. Peck and Jarmila Kukalová-Peck.

Discussion

Remarks.Alloraphes peckorum can be readily identified on the basis of uniquely modified elytra; no other Alloraphes has similar impressions.
