Ordo: Pulmonata
Familia: Orthalicoidea
Genus: Bulimus
Name
Bulimus hargravesi Cox, 1871 – Wikispecies link – Pensoft Profile
- Bulimus hargravesi Cox 1871[1]: 323, pl. 34 fig. 3; Breure and Schouten 1985[2]: 69.
- Eumecostylus hargravesi (Cox); Delsaerdt 2010[3]: 47, pl. 8 figs 1–6.
Type locality
“Treasury Island, Solomon Islands”, corrected to Malaita, Solomon Islands (Delsaerdt 2010[3]).
Label
“Solomon Isls”.
Dimensions
“Diam. 1.05, long. 2.60 unc. [H 64.3, D 25.9 mm]”; lectotype H 65.0, D 30.9, W 5.3.
Type material
NHMUK 1880.12.11.43, lectotype (ex Cox).
Remarks
The holotype designation (Breure and Schouten 1985[2]) has to be interpreted as lectotype designation (Art. 74.6 ICZN); the claim of Delsaerdt (2010[3]: unnumbered page opposite contents [not repeated in main text]) of a lectotype designation is thus erroneous. Delsaerdt interpreted Cox’ abbreviation “unc.” equalling 25.4 mm given his dimensions of the type specimens as 26.67 x 66.04 mm. Cox’ abbreviation can also be read as the Roman uncia, equal to 2.473 cm (Rowlett 2004), but according to Woodward (1851 [1851–1856][4]: 61) the uncia equals the inch (= 25.4 mm).
Current systematic position
Bothriembryontidae, Eumecostylus hargravesi (Cox, 1871).
