Description (male)
Head. Eye bridge 5–6 rows of facets. Antenna unicolour. Transition of basal part to neck pronounced. Colour of neck unicolour. Antennal setae of normal strength. Palpus darkened; short; palpomeres 3. First palpomere thickened; with 4–5 setae; with only sparse sensilla. Second palpomere globular. Third palpomere shorter than first. Thorax. Colour brown. Notum unicolour. Thoracic setae normal; brown. Posterior pronotum bare. Mesothoracic sclerites bare. Legs. Colour yellow, or yellow-brown. Hind coxa darkened. Setae on front coxa darkened. Front tibial organ as patch of setae; dark; front tibial organ with weakly indicated border. Tibial setae on hind legs weak and inconspicuous, or normal, shorter than tibial width. Tibial spurs of equal length. Claws untoothed. Wing. Wing slightly darkened; with weakly developed anal lobe. Wing membrane without macrotrichia. Wing venation weak, with faint stM. M-fork of normal shape. R1 ending at or slightly before base of m-fork; posterior veins bare; bM bare; r-m bare; bM:r-M 1.15–1.45; st-Cu:bM 0.3–0.6; R1:R 1.8–2.2; c:w 0.65–0.77. Halter darkened; of normal length. Abdomen. Abdominal setae dense; on tergites brown; on sternites brown. Hypopygium concolour with abdomen; LW-index 0.5–0.8. Base of gonocoxites with weak setae; gonocoxites broadly separated; inner margin of gonocoxites typically U-shaped; inner membrane of hypopygium bare, or scarcely setose; ventral margin of gonocoxite with short setae. Gonostylus elongate; LW-index 2.5–2.75; Inner margin straight, or concave; apex tapered, or with one obtuse angle. Apical tooth present; without internal structure; of medium strength; LW-Index 1.5–2.5. Awl-like setae long; beneath apical tooth numerous and reaching far beyond the tooth. Megasetae absent. Whiplash-hair absent. Tegmen 0.8–1.2 × longer than broad; equally rounded, or triangular; without special features; central process finger-like. Length of ejaculatory apodeme/hypopygium 18–26 %; base of ejaculatory apodeme present. Field with aedeagal teeth inconspicuous. Measurements. Body size 3–4 mm. Hind tibia 1.4–1.6 mm. Wing length 3.2–3.9 mm.
Diagnosis
G. neoopaca is most similar to Gabyella opaca by the shape of the male genitalia, but is considerably larger and has darker coxae.

Etymology
gr. neo- = new; lat. opacus = dark, shady. The name makes reference to the similarity with Gabyella opaca and its distribution in the New World.
