Note
Jeffrey (1988)[1] mentioned Vernonia biafrae Oliv. & Hiern in Oliv. was once placed in the synonymy of this species by Maquet in Troupin (1985), but cited a number of differences that did not include the strictly pinnate venation of the more northern Vernonia biafrae [= Distephanus biafrae (Oliv. & Hiern in Oliv.) H. Rob.].
