  • Abaxisotima spiniforma Wang, Gang, 2009, Zootaxa 2325: 32-33.

Description

Male. Body size medium. Head ovoid. Antennal scape short and stout. Fastigium verticis narrower than scape, smooth, with weak longitudinal sulcus, apex acute, not contacting the front of the fastigium. Occiput convex, surface smooth. Eyes ovoid, conspicuously protruding. Anterior part of disk of pronotum convex, posterior third abruptly broadened; anterior margin approximately straight, posterior margin obtusely rounded and slightly elevated, middle transverse sulcus v-shaped; lateral lobe longer than high, with lateral margin rounded and without lateral carinae, anterior margin of lateral lobe approximately straight, ventral margin slightly oblique downwards, posterior margin moderately rounded, humeral notch indistinct. Tegmina comparatively short and broad, gradually widened toward the middle, and then gradually narrowed toward apex, extending beyond terminalia of abdomen, but not reaching apex of posterior femur, apex rounded, R with 3 sub-parallel branches, Rs simple; stridulatory area of left tegmen without longitudinal vein between stridulatory vein and anterior region on dorsal area, and with additional longitudinal vein in more distal part of the area; mirror of right tegmen almost rounded, with a comparatively large transparent area, without veinlets (‘second mirror’). Hind wings longer than tegmina. Anterior coxa unarmed. Dorsum of femora smooth, and with longitudinal groove on ventral surface, without spines on both dorsal and ventral sides; genicular lobe with 1–2 spines. Auditory tympana open on both sides, widened at and abruptly constricted below tympana; anterior tibiae with 1 internal and 2 external dorsal spines, 10–12 internal and 8–9 external ventral spines; median tibiae with 6–8 internal and 3 external dorsal spines, 10–11 internal and 12–13 external ventral spines; posterior tibiae with 23–25 internal and 21 external dorsal spines, 11–13 internal and 13–14 external ventral spines. Tenth abdominal tergite broad, epiproct simple. Cerci bifurcate distally, with one stout, short denticle near comparatively blunt apex; inner branch at distal third, curved inwards and upwards, basal part stout and apical half thin, slightly s-shaped, possessing a sclerotized ridge along outer margin. Genitalia without a pair of sclerotized lobes. Subgenital plate narrow and long, lateral lobes longer than half subgenital plate, curved outwards, apex rounded. Female. Tegmina nearly reaching apices of posterior femora. Cerci short, and conical. Ovipositor, curved upward, with small denticles on dorsal and apical ventral margin; subgenital plate triangular, with a small notch on posterior margin. Coloration. Specimen preserved in alcohol, body slightly distorted. Antennal flagellum light brown ringed with white segments. Basal segments of antennae, vertex, disc of pronotum and dorsal part of left tegmen brown (except transparent area). Apices of male cerci reddish brown. Pronotum, lateral part of tegmen and abdominal tergites with dark brown dots.

Materials Examined

Type material.Holotype: male, Yongshan, Yunnan, 1930 m, 20 Jul., 2006. Description

Measurements (mm). Length of body: male 17.5, female 20.0; length of pronotum: male 4.5, female 4.0; length of tegmina: male 19.7, female 21.0; length of posterior femora: male 23.0, female 18.3; length of ovipositor: female 6.0.

Etymology

Etymology. The specific name is based on the structure of the male cercus.

Discussion

Remarks. The new species resembles Abaxisotima furca (Gorochov & Kang, 2002), but differs in: (1) Cerci bifurcated apically, with one stout and short denticle sclerotized at apex which is relatively blunt; inner branch at distal third, curved inwards and upwards, basal part stout and apical half thin, slightly s-shaped, possessing a ridge sclerotized along outer edge; (2) male tegmina extending beyond terminalia of abdomen, but not reaching apex of posterior femur; (3) male genitalia without a pair of moderately sclerotized lobes. A cknowledgements We are grateful to Dr. A. V. Gorochov (Russia) for so kind considerations. This project was funded by the National Natural Foundation of China (No. 30670252).
