Description

Description. Imago (Fig. 8). Wingspan 10.0–10.5 mm. Head with vertex shining white, frons ochreous brown. Labial palpus with second segment ferruginous on outside, ochreous yellow on inside, third segment black. Antennal scape white; flagellum white ringed with black on dorsal surface, dark brown on ventral surface. Thorax and tegula deep ochreous brown. Forewing ferruginous except distal 1 / 6 deep gray mixed with black; markings white edged with black: first fascia from base of fold obliquely to dorsum, second fascia from costal 1 / 4 obliquely to dorsal 1 / 2; rounded spot at about costal 2 / 3; small black spot at end of fold; cilia orange yellow along termen, yellowish gray along apex and dorsum. Hindwing and cilia gray. Tibia of midleg with a tuft of long white scales at apex. Male genitalia (Fig. 20). Uncus sclerotized, almost parallel sided, posterior margin with a small median projection and two horn-shaped lateral processes. Gnathos about same length as uncus, tongue-shaped, rounded apically. Valva narrowed at base, broadened medially, triangular distally; costa slightly concave beyond middle, with a clubshaped process arising from middle, which exceeds apex of valva and reaches end of saccular distal process. Sacculus concave at 1 / 3 on dorsal margin, distal 2 / 3 with dense hairs, free distal process with some apical spines directing upward. Saccus extremely long, slightly longer than valva. Aedeagus long and thin, straight, about twice length of valva, slightly broadened distally, with a small apical spine; cornutus absent. Female genitalia (Fig. 28). Apophysis anterioris about 2 / 5 length of apophysis posterioris. Antrum deeply concave at middle on posterior margin, pointed posterolaterally, narrowing anteriorly, longitudinally with sclerotized carinae. Ductus bursae about twice as long as antrum, membranous, with a sclerotized band distally. Corpus bursae elongate ovate posteriorly, shrunken lateromedially, rounded anteriorly; two signa placed posteriorly, one thornform, the other composed of two or three small spines.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis. This species can be separated from its congeners by the small medial projection and horn-shaped posterolateral process of the uncus, and by the small apical spine of the aedeagus; and in the female genitalia, by the sclerotized longitudinal carinae of the antrum, and the lateromedially shrunken corpus bursae.

Etymology

Etymology. The name is derived from the Latin carina (= a ridge) and the suffix -atus, referring to the antrum having longitudinal carinae in the female genitalia.
