  • Abrotoxyela multiciliata Gao, Taiping, 2009, Zootaxa 2094: 55-56.

Description

Description: Female specimen (length of body with female genitalia 16.0) in ventral view with incomplete wings (length of forewing fragment as preserved 14.8) and antennae (as preserved 5.0mm). Color brown, particularly the abdomen and head. Head 2.5mm wide and 2.3mm long, Mandible robust and triangular with slightly elongate apex, intercrossing. Eyes large, egg-shaped. The third segment of antennae (3.2mm in length) twice as thick as remaining flagellomeres (1.7mm in combined length), scape distinctly thicker than pedicel, pedicel trapezoid. In ventral view, body covered with hairs, pronotum short, mesonotum with anterior margin curved forward. Abdomen with 6 segments visible; ovipositor sword-shaped, wide and short.

Hind leg with the last tarsomere shortest, and the fourth tarsomere with spur outside. Forewing with Sc closer to R than C, second branch of Sc (Sc 2) short and slightly inclining towards base of wings, R distinctly bent, the segment of Rs between 1 r-rs and 2 r-rs arched, 2 r-rs about 1.5 times as long as 1 r-rs. Crossvein 1 m-cu shorter than the segment of Cu toward it and slightly longer than 1 cu-a; 2 r-rm shorter than 2 r-rs but longer than 1 r-rs, cell 1 M equal to 1 R 1; Pterostigma just about half of cell 2 R 1 in width, and 1.5 times as long as cell 2 R 1. Comparison: This species can be easily distinguished from A. lepida sp. nov. in the structure of hind leg and the shape of segment of vein Rs between 1 r-rs and 2 r-rs.

Materials Examined

Holotype: No. CNU-HYM-NN- 2008005, an impression of a nearly complete female sawfly in ventral view.

Etymology

Etymology: The name is derived from Latin ‘multiciliata’ meaning hairy, referring to the full covering of body hair. Gender is feminine. Locality and horizon: Daohugou beds, Jiulongshan Formation, Ningcheng Country, Inner Mongolia in China, the Middle Jurassic.
