Template for anonymous works which were in the public domain on the URAA date (usually 1/1/1996). Note that anonymous works are (usually) works where the author was not publicly identified, and not just works published or installed without the author's name. In addition, in most countries, works published anonymously no longer qualify as anonymous works if the author is publicly identified later (details vary). See Commons:Anonymous works.

A file description page for an anonymous work must make clear (i) why the work is public domain in the United States and (ii) why it is public domain in the source country (if not the US). The reason parameter is often useful for the second part.

Example template use: {{PD-anon-auto-1996|publication=1940|country=Nepal|date=2004|reason=Nepal anon works are protected for 25 years from creation, meaning it was PD by 1965 at the latest.}} produces

	This anonymous or pseudonymous work is in the public domain in the United States because it was first published outside the United States (and not published in the U.S. within 30 days) and it was first published before 1978 without complying with U.S. copyright formalities or between 1978 and 28 February 1989 without copyright notice and it was in the public domain in its home country or area (Nepal) on the relevant URAA date (2004). It is also in the public domain in other countries and areas where the copyright terms of anonymous or pseudonymous works are 80 years or less since publication.
	For background information, see the explanations on Non-U.S. copyrights. Nepal anon works are protected for 25 years from creation, meaning it was PD by 1965 at the latest.
