Information about the vessel may be found at IMO .
A ship can change her name and flag state through time, but the IMO number remains the same through the hull's entire lifetime. Therefore, it's useful to identify a ship through her IMO number.

For category description pages of categories for specific ships, e.g. Category:Carousel (ship, 1971) and others in Category:Ships by name.
Links to the ship's IMO number category (format "IMO xxxxxx"), e.g. to Category:IMO 7027411 (see Category:Ships by IMO number).
Can also be used on file description pages. In this case, it's advisable to include parameter #2 with the ship's name.

Usage

Initially added by bot to all subcategories of "IMO xxxxxxx" categories. Query: [1]. This is occasionally updated.
