Cerbera peruviana) - [ (thev-VET-ee-uh) named for Andre Thevet, 16th century French monk and plant collector; (per-u-vee-AN-uh) of or from Peru ] Cultivar: alba Family: Apocynaceae (dogbane, or oleander family) - [ (a-pos-ih-NAY-see-ay) from the Greek apo (away from or away with) and kuon (dog) ]

Origin: Central America

This is the white variety of the more common yellow oleander. It is a poisonous shrub up to 10-20 ft tall with leaves group mostly in whorls of three, long and narrow up to 10 inches long. Tip of leafs are pointed with a dark green color. The plant resembles that of Oleander, hence the common name. Flowers are white and small fruit containing two to four flat seeds. If ingested may experience pain in the mouth and lips, may also develop vomiting, cramping, abdominal pain, nausea and bradycardia shortly after ingestion.
